I
painted this at the same time as "A Shoulder to Cry On"
but with a much lighter feeling. I had no car because I flew
in and was forced to go to the only grocery store in walking
distance which was terrible. The grapes were really the only
interesting thing I saw but my options were either find something
to paint or watch TV.
At
first the pear was only slightly banged up, it took a day
or two to look like that. I liked that the pear was a little
squatty, round, and beaten up a little. I thought about the
the old joke of it being surrounded by groups of fruits and
nuts and thought "He'll survive"
